Learn the controlsIn football, a two-minute drill is the offense's push to move the ball and score with little time left. The challenge is using the clock as carefully as the field. A short completion can move the chains but leave the clock running. A deep attempt can save snaps and still bring a bigger risk.
This game puts those decisions in your hands. Starting situations come from historical NFL games, with a mix of trailing, tied and lead-protection scenarios. You call plays through the finish rather than answering trivia questions or controlling a quarterback with a joystick. Some situations begin with more or less than exactly two minutes on the clock.
Start with the score you need. A team down by four needs a touchdown; a late field goal will not close the gap. Next check your timeouts and the opponent's. Those small numbers change whether a completion over the middle is useful, whether you can run, and how much time a stop might give you.
The game clock moves when a play is resolved. You can take time to read the options without losing game time. After each snap, check the new down and distance before choosing again. The strategy guide explains the tradeoffs behind hurry-up offense, spikes, fourth downs and late kicks.
